Information for Applicants

Introduction
Since 2008, the Working Group on Sexual Exploitation has served as a cross-Canada gathering
location for information sharing among the members, theological reflection, letter writing to
the government on issues of shared concern, and the development of learning resources with
representatives of member denominations of The Canadian Council of Churches. This Working
Group Assistant role is designed to facilitate these activities of the Working Group.

Responsibilities
The focus of the Working Group Assistant work will be on assisting the Chair of the Working
Group with scheduling, planning, facilitation, communications and follow-up for meetings and
members of the Working Group on Sexual Exploitation in Canada.

Currently the priorities of the Working Group include:

  • Sexual exploitation, gender-based violence and mutuality in relationships
  • Sexual exploitation and contributing factors such as racism and poverty
  • Link between sexual exploitation and missing and murdered indigenous women and girls in Canada (addressing and responding to the TRC and the Inquiry process)

This translates into shared work by the members of the Working Group on collecting and
preparing Bible study, prayer and worship resources; the completion and promotion of a
leadership and learning kit on sexual exploitation; and advocacy opportunities related to the
National Inquiry into Missing and Murdered Indigenous Women and Girls, the United Nations
Commission on the Status of Women and other advocacy campaigns.

Qualifications

  • Experience in preparing meeting agendas, scheduling and follow-up of meetings, comfort
    working with video conference platforms, and email
  • Experience and passion for the priorities of the Working Group
  • Undergraduate degree
  • commitment to the mandate of The Canadian Council of Churches
  • member or adherent of a member church of The Canadian Council of Churches preferred
    (see list below)
  • good communication and computer skills, including proficiency in Microsoft Office Suite
  • fluency in English required, ability to also work in French an asset
  • eligible to work in Canada

Terms

  • part-time (7 hours a week for 26 weeks, or a total of 182 hours), for 6 months, the start date to be January 15, 2018 or earliest possible date after selection.
  • Payment consists of an hourly rate of $19.50 (less statutory deductions, inclusive of holiday pay) and a modest expense and travel budget as needed
  • work location is a mutually agreed upon location anywhere in Canada or in the offices of The Canadian Council of Churches in Toronto, Ontario
