The 11th Assembly of the World Council of Churches is held in Karlsruhe, Germany from 31 August to 8 September, under the theme "Christ's Love Moves the World to Reconciliation and Unity."

ELCIC National Bishop Susan Johnson Elected to the Exec Committee of the Central Committee of the World Council of Churches

The Canadian Council of Churches welcomes the election of the Evangelical Lutheran Church in Canada National Bishop Susan Johnson to the Executive Committee of the Central Committee of the World Council of Churches. We are very fortunate to have a strong and experienced church leader at the highest levels of leadership in the World Council of Churches.

We also congratulate new Central Committee members who make Canada their home: the Rt. Rev. Bishop Riscylla Shaw of the Anglican Church of Canada, the Rev. Dr. Hyuk Cho of the United Church of Canada, the Rev. Dr. Jennifer Leath of the American Methodist Episcopal Church, and Bishop Susan Johnson of the Evangelical Lutheran Church in Canada. Many other friends and colleagues with connections to Canada have also been elected to the Central Committee from the North America region.

We welcome the new President of the World Council of Churches from North America who is the Rev. Dr. Angelique Walker-Smith. She is the National Senior Associate for Pan African and Orthodox Church Engagement at Bread for the World based in Washington D.C. She has been Ecumenical Representative for National Baptist Convention USA, Inc. and is engaged in work of the National Council of Churches in the USA.
