CCC mourns passing of past president Bishop André Vallée

The Canadian Council of Churches mourns the passing of Bishop André Vallée, former bishop of the Military Ordinariate of Canada (1988-96), Bishop of Hearst (1996-2005) and CCC president from 2000 to 2003. He passed away on Sunday, 28 February 2015, at the age of 84.

Bishop Vallée was born in 1930 at Sainte-Anne-de-la-Pérade, Quebec, and was ordained to the priesthood in 1956.  He was a Member of the Prêtres des Missions Étrangères (P.M.E.) for which he served as a missionary for a number of years in the Philippines between 1961 and 1973, he was also the General Secretary of the Canadian Conference of Catholic Bishops (CCCB) from 1979 to 1985, during which time he was in charge of the visit of Pope John Paul II to Canada in 1984.

Bishop Vallée is survived by his missionary brethren; his sisters-in-law: Yolande Proteau and Lise Dumas; and numerous nephews and nieces.

Visitation will be held on Thursday, 5 March 2015, starting at 7:30pm at the Central House of the Foreign Mission Society, 180 Juge-Desnoyers place, Laval (Pont-Viau), QC.

The funeral service will be held Friday, 6 March 2015, at 2:00pm in the same location, followed by the interment.

It is requested that, in lieu of flowers, donations be made to the Prêtres des Missions Étrangères.
