On the occasion of another tragedy, the massacre of Muslims at the Masjid Al-Noor mosque and the Linwood Masjid Mosque in Christchurch, New Zealand on March 15, 2019, the Canadian Council of Churches offers the following prayer:
God,
Open our hearts.
Let us never allow a racist joke to pass in our hearing,
keep our minds free from thoughts of superiority or revenge,
may we never appear to accept or condone intolerance or hatred of people with other faiths, cultures or traditions,
forgive us for acts of violence and complicity, for what we have done and what we have left undone,
grant us your gift of peace, and may we together work for justice and the well-being of all.
