The Canadian Council of Churches welcomes the recently declared and enacted ceasefire between Israel and Hamas. Violence and destruction are futile. Justice and understanding are a prelude to a lasting peace. May all parties to the conflict recommit to walk together on the long but sacred path to peace and justice for all.
In Canada, we are concerned by threats against whole peoples and communities in our country. We stand with all people of good will in condemning acts of hate and intimidation. There should be no acceptance of hate in Canada, no place for dehumanizing people or communities. We join with others in calling on all people of faith to extend a hand and support all who feel threatened by violence and intimidation.
We join many in praying for peace.
