The Statement on Religious Freedom is a consensus statement of the Christian Interfaith Reference Group (CIRG).
It originated from the CCC Governing Board’s request that CIRG develop a statement in response to the Charter of Values debate in the province of Quebec. CCC member churches were invited to share their input for such a statement. However, before the statement was finalized, that immediate issue had been resolved.
We have, therefore, incorporated input from CCC member churches and from conversations at several Governing Board meetings to create a statement with a broader scope and intention.
We respectfully offer it for your use in conversations about freedom of religion in Canada, and as a basis for response to any issue that challenges religious freedom.
We encourage you to share it widely in your churches and with your contacts.
